Mariah Carey is known for her five-octave range, and she says her voice has gotten stronger, thanks to pregnancy.

The 42-year-old gave birth to fraternal twins in April via C-section. She recently lost 30 pounds by following the Jenny Craig diet, and says the process has enhanced her vocals.

“Right now I feel like pregnancy actually helped me vocally,” Carey said in an interview Wednesday. “At this moment my voice is in great shape.”

The Grammy winner is also working on new music, which she said is partly inspired by her pregnancy.

Carey made the comments as she was announced as the new brand ambassador for Jenny Craig, which is now called Jenny. The singer said after giving birth she was “approached by a lot of different companies,” but that the folks at Jenny “understood me.”

During her pregnancy Carey dealt with gestational diabetes and toxemia. She says “you couldn’t make me go through that again.

“I knew I was going to gain weight during the pregnancy, but I didn’t think about the pain the weight would cause,” she said. “I didn’t know if I was going to be able to walk again ... I couldn’t get up out of my chair alone.”

Carey said in addition to eating right, she worked out a lot, though husband Nick Cannon wasn’t her partner in that sense.

“He’s in great shape and he can eat anything he wants (and) I’m jealous of that,” she said. “But sometimes I’m glad ‘cause he has candy by the bed, and I’ll sneak one of his little candies.”

Carey says her involvement with Jenny — which supports the American Heart Association’s “My Heart. My Life.” initiative — stretches beyond just helping women bounce back from weight gain during pregnancy.

“We just lost Heavy D,” she said of the rapper who collapsed and died Tuesday. “I considered him my friend and ... he was (in his) early 40s, so it’s serious. It’s really serious.”

Heavy D Funeral To Be Held In New York: Diddy Mary J. Blige To Attend

Rap legend Heavy D will be laid to rest in New York next Friday following a public viewing and wake at a Mount Vernon church the day before, a church official said.

The viewing on Nov. 17 will be held at Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon from noon to 7 p.m. A wake will immediately follow, ending at 8 p.m., the church official told the Daily News.

The next day, family and friends will gather at an invitation-only funeral service at the century-old church.

Sean (Diddy) Combs, Mary J. Blige and the Wayans brothers are among the celebrities invited to attend the private service Friday, TMZ.com reported.

Heavy D’s grieving relatives met early Friday with their longtime minister, W. Franklyn Richardson, and were scheduled to visit the Yannantuono Funeral Home in Mount Vernon this afternoon, sources said.

“They’re all devastated. His sister is having a hard time. She says it’s not true, that it didn’t happen,” said a close family friend, Eda Phillips, 79, who is the mother of rapper Pete Rock.

“It’s just terrible. I’m going up to see his mother now. This is the third son she has lost.”

Heavy D, whose real name was Dwight Arrington Myers, was returning from a shopping trip Tuesday morning when he experienced difficulty breathing and collapsed in an exterior hallway of his Beverly Hills condo building, police said.

He was conscious and talking when first responders arrived, but died about 90 minutes later at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

A spokesman for the county coroner later revealed Heavy D sought medical attention shortly before his sudden death.

“He had gone to the doctor the day before,” Ed Winter, assistant chief of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office, told The News. “He had what appeared to be flu-like symptoms.”

Investigators completed an autopsy Wednesday morning, but declined to give a preliminary cause of death until toxicology tests have been completed; the tests could take six weeks.

“He was taking medication, so we want to see what the levels were,” Winter said.

The Westchester County-bred musician weighed 344 pounds at the time of his death at age 44, Winter said.

“He had a touch of pneumonia, maybe from traveling. He just got back from England,” cousin Ruddy Phillips, 50, told The News after speaking with the entertainer's dad.

Born in Jamaica and raised in Mount Vernon, Heavy D rose to stardom in the 1990s as the frontman for Heavy D & the Boyz, a group that recorded such early hip-hop hits as “Now That We Found Love” and “Nuttin But Love."

Mixed Martial Artist foil Would-Be Robber Of California Hotel

A would-be robber's attempt steal from a motel's register was foiled after a pair of mixed martial arts fighters visiting from Oregon wandered onto the scene, the Los Angeles Times reported.

A video posted on the LAPD's website shows the gun-toting suspect approaching the clerk motel desk and demanding money. As the robber walks away with the bag, the video shows two of the fighters, Brent Alvarez and Billy Denney, coming off of the elevator and almost immediately subduing the suspect into a chokehold.

The unlucky gunman, who was taken into custody when police arrived, was identified as Luis Rosales, 31. He was booked on $101,250 bail.

"He wasn't trying to punch us; he just seemed like someone who had run out of options," Alvarez told the Los Angeles Times. "I think back now and wonder what the hell was I doing? I should of hit him and knocked him out."

Alvarez added that Rosales kept begging to be released and saying he did it all for his daughter.

Police told the newspaper that they recovered all of the cash Rosales had stolen. Meanwhile, Alvarez and Denney are competing in the World Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship on Saturday.

"I might have more butterflies than usual because I already had my fight for this week," stated Alvarez.

Playboy Unhappy With Lindsay Lohan Photos

Reports are surfacing that Playboy is unhappy with the nudes from Lindsay Lohan's photo shoot. The troubled actress, who was just sentenced to 30 days in jail for violating her probation, was granted a week to complete her Playboy spread. Lindsay is rumored to receive as much as $1 million dollars to bare it all in the January issue of the magazine.

For pocketing that much cash, it is only right that Playboy get exactly what they want from the photos. Though the pictures have already been taken, they want the actress to start the spread from scratch. A source reports, "Lindsay was told that the Playboy executives wanted to go another direction with her shoot so they asked her to come back for a second time."

Guess strutting around in your birthday suit isn't as easy as Lindsay thought it would be.

Usher Attacked By Woman Over Handicapped Parking Spot

Usher had quite the scare when he found himself near a Halloween parade in Atlanta last weekend.

The R&B singer, 33, was accosted by a woman at a shopping center near the Little Five Points Halloween Parade after he took the liberty of parking his SUV in a handicapped spot, according to TMZ.

The woman, apparently angered by the singer s illegal parking, reportedly approached the vehicle and sprayed a beer at Usher while he was still sitting in the driver s seat with the window down.

Usher retaliated and splashed the woman with his water bottle, which prompted her to kick his driver s side door until he exited the car, TMZ said.

Video of the incident shows the woman approaching the star and demanding that he move his car. Usher appears to keep his cool, but refuses to move his vehicle. The woman then lunges toward Usher, grabbing his shirt, before bystanders pull her away.

Usher is heard on the video sternly warning the woman, Do not put your hands on me!

You don t belong here! she shouts.

Though the singer remained calm, onlookers (including one man dressed as Elvis) did their best to keep the woman away from Usher, who appeared to have been without any security guards.

According to TMZ, the woman s husband eventually pulled her away from the scene and Usher left soon after.
